THE STARTER REPORTED: a) JUST POWER (C Zackey) was restless in the stalls. b) METAR (L Mxothwa) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 200m METAR (L Mxothwa) rolled in slightly and was steadied away from the heels of UMVOTI (G van Niekerk), which rolled out slightly. b) Jockey O Noach (CRUIZIN CALIFORNIA) hesitated with his riding when close to the heels of UMVOTI (G van Niekerk) shortly before the finish. c) In view of the report from the Starter regarding JUST POWER (C Zackey), Trainer C Bass-Robinson will be advised to have this filly re-schooled before her next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. d) Jockey C Zackey was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking JUST POWER more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey C Zackey signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1000,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Jockey C Zackey used his crop and the number of strikes (13) over the permissible level. e) CALL IT FATE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised.
