THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) During the loading process, CIRCUS LIGHTS (*K A Brewer) kicked the back gates resulting in EYE OF THE PROPHET (*R A Venniker) becoming restless, breaking through the front gates, returning to the start, being checked by the Course Veterinary Surgeon, passed fit to race and reloaded.
Trainer G J Maroun will be advised to re-school CIRCUS LIGHTS prior to its next engagement (BN).
b) BLYDE RIVER (M van Rensburg) was slow into stride.
c) DESERT FOX (P Strydom) was slow losing one length.
d) NOBLE KINGDOM (R Munger) jumped inwards leaving the stalls.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) SYLVAN THEATER (K Matsunyane) hung in from the 300m.
b) EYE OF THE PROPHET (*R A Venniker) shifted out away from the crop in the concluding stages. Apprentice Venniker appeared before the Board and was advised to keep her mounts on a straight course in races.
c) In view of the performance of DESERT FOX (P Strydom), (betting 28/10, distance 14,25 lengths), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
When afforded the opportunity to place on record any factors which may have accounted for the poor performance of DESERT FOX, Jockey Strydom explained to the Board that DESERT FOX had expended unnecessary energy after being unruly proceeding to the start. During the running of the race, after being slow away this gelding raced to a prominent position at the head of the field up until the 600m where he came under pressure, began to tire and gave ground to the field. As a consequence of this, Jockey Strydom did not persevere with his riding from the 200m.
Trainer B Botes was requested to report back to the Board on the condition of this gelding on return to stables.
d) EYE OF THE PROPHET (*R A Venniker), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P F Matchett advised (AH).
e) BLYDE RIVER (M van Rensburg), unplaced, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. (MdP)
JOCKEY CHANGES:
a) SEVEN WONDERS was ridden by Jockey D De Gouveia.
Jockey J P van der Merwe was charged with a contravention of Rule 21.13 in that he failed to inform the Stipendiary Board immediately he became aware that he was unable to fulfil his riding engagement. Jockey van der Merwe signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1000.
RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER:
a) SILVER TUDOR new ownership: Mr L M Michael. Colours: Yellow, shocking pink star and armbands, yellow cap.
b) BLYDE RIVER raced with a tongue tie on (declared 6 October 2022 at 08H40).
THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED:
a) EYE OF THE PROPHET brush wound left hind.
b) BIG DREAMER abnormal respiratory noise.
c) DESERT FOX examined post race, nothing obvious detected.
d) SYLVAN THEATER abnormal respiratory noise.
SCRATCHED:
a) MELECH and WE'VE GOT TONIGHT change of track, Stewards permission. Advised 4 October 2022 at 07H36.
b) MUNCHKIN shin sore (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies).
