THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ZATARA MAGIC (R Munger) jumped awkwardly with its head up. b) SAND BANK (JP van der Merwe) jumped outwards. c) THEN IN FOCUS (C Habib) and COASTAL PATH (R Fourie) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) SAND BANK (JP van der Merwe) proved difficult to settle in the early stages. b) INDY VIEW (L Mxothwa) raced wide without cover on the bend and into the straight. c) COASTAL PATH (R Fourie) was hanging in in the straight and proved difficult to ride. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) Apprentice MK Katjedi reported that RUSSIAN EMPIRE made an abnormal respiratory noise and coughed post-race. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this colt. e) Trainer GD Smith was charged with a contravention of Rule 10.5.6.1 in that he failed to notify the local office of the National Horseracing Authority within two (2) business days that THEN IN FOCUS had been gelded. Trainer GD Smith signed an Admission of Guilt and was given a warning. f) KHAYA'S HOPE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GD Smith was advised.
