DALLAS was restless in the stalls. Upon arrival of the delayed float from Ashburton carrying the runners for Race 5 and the later races, PICKAWINNER was examined and withdrawn by the Veterinary Surgeon due to this gelding having an insufficient recovery time after transportation. Shortly after the start, WINTER TWILIGHT and DALLAS came together and bumped on at least two separate occasions. Approaching the 800m, DALLAS had to be eased severely when awkwardly placed on the inside of LUPO which shifted in. Thereafter, as a consequence of this incident and the severity of the interference, Jockey Zackey did not persevere with his ride. In view of this report, the Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Apprentice Solomons signed an admission of guilt for a contravention, in that as the rider of LUPO, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to DALLAS approaching the 800m. In deciding what action to take against Apprentice Solomons, the Board was of the view that due to the nature and severity of the interference caused, the minimum penalty of a suspension of 7 days was insufficient and a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for 14 days was more appropriate and therefore imposed. BIG KING was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. WINTER TWILIGHT and SEVENTH SON raced with alumites in front, unshod behind. Vet: DALLAS - small cuts on both hind heels. WINTER TWILIGHT - speedy cut left hind. Scratched: KINGSTON PARK - abscess right fore. PICKAWINNER - insufficient recovery time from transportation. Withdrawn by the Veterinary Surgeon.
