THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) STORM BOULEVARD (S Cele) was reluctant to load and restless in the stalls, causing a delay.
b) SUDDEN SONG (L Mxothwa) was reluctant to load.
c) READY OR NOT (K de Melo) jumped awkwardly inwards, made contact with the front gate leaving the stalls and thereafter was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) At the request of Jockey K de Melo, READY OR NOT was examined at the start by the course veterinary surgeon and passed suitable to race.
b) CIDER HOUSE RULES (G van Niekerk) pulled hard in the early stages and proved difficult to settle.
c) Between the 350m and 300m JACK RYAN (*J Solomons) had to be steadied when awkwardly placed between TUSCAN GOLD (JP van der Merwe), which rolled out slightly and a tiring CIDER HOUSE RULES (G van Niekerk).
d) PROFESSOR SNAPE (C Orffer) shifted in sharply at the 250m and had to be straightened.
e) Jockey K de Melo reported that READY OR NOT felt uncomfortable in its action. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this colt.
f) In view of the report from the Starter regarding STORM BOULEVARD (S Cele), Trainer AE Sands will be advised to have this gelding re-schooled before his next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10.
g) Jockey C Orffer was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking PROFESSOR SNAPE more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey C Orffer signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1500,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Jockey C Orffer used his crop, the number of strikes (14) over the permissible level and his recent record (2).
h) PROFESSOR SNAPE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer VH Marshall was advised. (JF)

b) C Bantam (SPICE CAPTAIN) rode +2.5kg of which 2kg was carded (52.8kgs)
