THE STARTER REPORTED: a) GOOD QUEEN BESS (GB) (K Matsunyane) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) MAY QUEEN (P Strydom), from a wide draw, was encouraged forward, raced prominently throughout, and thereafter tired in the concluding stages, b) ROCKETS RED GLARE (J P van der Merwe), which raced without cover, over-raced in the early stages. c) EMERALD PRINCESS (C Habib) and GOOD QUEEN BESS (GB) (K Matsunyane) brushed on two occasions whilst racing in tight quarters from the 200m to the finish. d) Jockey C Zackey was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking WHAT A HONEY more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey C Zackey signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R1,000.00 was imposed. When assessing this penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times the crop was used (13) and Jockey C Zackey's recent record with regard to this Rule and Guideline (2). e) GOLDEN ASPEN (M van Rensburg), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Spies advised (AH). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) MIDNIGHT GEM raced with a pressure halter (declared 8 October 2022 at 08H52). b) MAY QUEEN raced equipped with a compression mask (declared 10 October 2022 at 09H20). c) GOOD QUEEN BESS (GB) raced with a tongue tie on (declared 11 October 2022 at 07H30). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) LUCY IN THE SKY mild post race distress. b) ON CUE abnormal respiratory noise and coughing post race. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
