THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BE HOPEFUL (S Mbhele) jumped slow, losing one length. b) ELLA'S DELIGHT (L Mxothwa) and BY MIDNIGHT (C Bantam) made contact leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) BY MIDNIGHT (C Bantam) pulled hard in the early and middle stages. b) In view of the performance of STRAWBERRY LIGHT (R Fourie), which was unable to secure a clear run on the inside of TEARDROP (C Habib) at the 400m and thereafter failed to respond to Jockey R Fourie's urgings, the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. c) Approaching the 300m TEARDROP (C Habib) had to be steadied and switched out when unable to secure a run between the inside running rail and WHITE WITCH (C Orffer), which was hanging in. d) Jockey S Mbhele (BE HOPEFUL) was dislodged in the pull-up area without incident. He was examined by the course medical officer and passed fit to fulfil the remainder of his riding engagements. e) JAM JAM, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
