THE STARTER REPORTED: a) LUCY IN THE SKY (N Klink) broke the front gates open as the start was effected resulting in this mare jumping awkwardly losing two lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses who participated in this race carried sectional timing devices in their saddle cloths. b) As the gates were released, LUCY IN THE SKY became restless and nudged the front gates which resulted in them opening slightly ahead of the others. After reviewing the start of the race, the Board was satisfied that LUCY IN THE SKY had gained no advantage and had actually lost momentum and gave ground to the field through this incident. Furthermore, the Board was of the opinion that the loss of distance was as a consequence of the horses own behaviour, and therefore deemed her to be a runner. c) GOBSMACKED (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J J van Vuuren advised (RS). JOCKEY CHANGES: None.
