THE STARTER REPORTED: a) TOTHEMOONANDBACK (G van Niekerk) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) BIG SLICK (G Lerena) spread its right front shoe prior to leaving the parade ring, which had to be re-fitted, causing a delay. b) Into the first turn at the 1200m COLLOIDAL GOLD (C Orffer), which over raced in the early stages, was steadied away from the heels of MASTER JOSH (K Matsunyane) and shifted out. CAPITAINE MAURICE (G Wright), which was racing on the outside of COLLOIDAL GOLD (C Orffer), was carried outwards and as a consequence, raced wide on the bend until leaving the 1000m. c) At the 150m TOTHEMOONANDBACK (G van Niekerk) rolled out away from STREET OUTLAW (B Fayd'Herbe) and had to be checked off the heels of JOHNNY DOGS (S Veale) when tightened for galloping room between STREET OUTLAW (B Fayd'Herbe), which initially rolled out and was immediately straightened and JOHNNY DOGS (S Veale), which rolled in slightly. The Stewards, after reviewing this incident, were satisfied that no blame could be attached to an individual rider for this incident. d) In view of the performance of COLLOIDAL GOLD (C Orffer), which was not persevered with from the 150m and finished tailed off, the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) SEEKING THE ONE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer B Crawford was advised. (TJ) f) PIROSHKA, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised.
