THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DEAN STREET (R Fourie) nudged the front gate as the start was effected and thereafter jumped slow, losing one length and was slow into stride. b) BLUFF ON BLUFF (JP van der Merwe) and MASTER OF AFRICA (G Wright) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) BONANZA (D Ashby) hesitated and jumped an area where the grass was discoloured and, as a consequence, became very unbalanced, lost momentum and position and was not persevered with. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. b) SILVER SALMON (K Matsunyane) was hanging out from the 400m. c) At the 200m DEAN STREET (R Fourie) was held up for a clear run when awkwardly placed on the heels of BLUFF ON BLUFF (JP van der Merwe), which was directed in to continue its run when it received some pressure from DIFFERENT FACE (GB) (S Veale) which rolled in slightly. d) Jockey A Domeyer reported that TCHAIKOVSKY did not stride out freely in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) BLUFF ON BLUFF, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer ELP Steyn was advised.
