THE STARTER REPORTED: a) LUCY BELLE (S Khathi) and OSCEOLA (L Mxothwa) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey M Yeni (JASPERO) dropped his crop approaching the 300m. b) Jockey D Ashby reported that he felt something amiss with YOUNG NELSON. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) Jockey X Ndlovu reported that VIDA FUTURA changed stride continually in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) Jockey S Khathi reported that LUCY BELLE did not stride out freely in running and coughed post-race. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this mare. e) Jockeys T Gould (DRENGS FERRY) and L Mxothwa (OSCEOLA) reported that these geldings took no interest in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. f) Jockey R Munger was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking ALMIGHWAAR more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey R Munger signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1500,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Jockey R Munger used his crop and the number of strikes (14) over the permissible level. g) JASPERO, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GD Smith was advised (LM).
