THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MADAME VICKI (*P Mxoli) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) AFTER HOURS (M Yeni) was slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) After being slow away, AFTER HOURS (M Yeni) failed to muster speed and raced detached from the field throughout. Thereafter, Jockey M Yeni reported that he felt something amiss with AFTER HOURS (M Yeni) in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. When offered the opportunity to place on record any factors which may have accounted for the poor performance of AFTER HOURS, Jockey M Yeni explained to the Board that from the outset, this gelding had adopted an extremely awkward action and almost felt as if he was dragging his hind legs. In view of this, Jockey M Yeni did not persevere with his riding. Trainer S J Gray was requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of AFTER HOURS on return to stables b) Leaving the 300m, SAMOA (*S Sosibo) and TIMBAVATI RIVER (R Munger), which commenced to hang in, came together and brushed. c) SECOND BREATH (*G Pieterse), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer R Klaasen advised (AH). d) PINCH HIT (C Maujean), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer F Bronkhorst advised (MduP). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) IN CAHOOTS raced equipped with blinkers (declared 8 December 2022 at 11H52). b) PINCH HIT raced with a tongue tie on (declared 9 December 2022 at 09H30). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) AFTER HOURS examined post race, nothing obvious detected. Veterinary report required prior to racing. Rule 49.7 applies. Trainer S J Gray advised (TL).
