THE STARTER REPORTED: a) LADY OF POWER (S Khumalo) and LOVE BITE (N Klink) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) AGA HEAT (R Danielson) and ROCKETS RED GLARE (*M K Katjedi) were slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) AGA HEAT (R Danielson) was baulked for a clear run from the 400m to the 300m. b) At approximately the 400m, LOVE BITE (N Klink) had to steady momentarily when awkwardly placed on the heels of LADY OF POWER (S Khumalo) and on the outside of PERMESSO AVANTI (C Maujean) which rolled out. c) MIGHTY GODDESS (M Yeni) hung in from 200m. d) At approximately the 200m, ROCKETS RED GLARE (*M K Katjedi) was directed inwards to continue its run and thereafter this filly commenced to hang in in the concluding stages. e) Apprentice G Pieterse reported that BLINDEDBYTHELIGHTS did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. f) ROCKETS RED GLARE (*M K Katjedi), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A G Laird advised (LK). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) PERMESSO AVANTI was ridden by Jockey C Maujean (declared 24 December 2022 at 08H42). Jockey K de Melo was charged with a contravention of Rule 55.4 in that he failed to weigh out at the correct carded weight on the horse PERMESSO AVANTI, or at the higher weight confirmed in his engagement with the Trainer which necessitated a change of Rider. Jockey de Melo signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1000. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) PERMESSO AVANTI raced equipped with blinkers (declared 24 December 2022 at 08H01). b) TIME FOR GLORY raced equipped with blinkers (declared 21 December 2022 at 09H14). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) BLINDEDBYTHELIGHTS not striding out behind. b) ON CUE abnormal respiratory noise. c) AGA HEAT fatigued. d) SILVER WINTER fatigued and blowing. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
