THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CHICKS FOR FREE (R Danielson) was slow into stride. b) RISE ABOVE (J Penny) was slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) As the start was effected, BACK TO THE FUTURE (S Khumalo) was bumped by DUSKY ROSE (D De Gouveia) which jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) After being slow away, RISE ABOVE (J Penny) failed to muster speed on debut, and as a consequence, raced detached from the field throughout. c) MEMORIAL DAY (G Lerena) hung in from the 300m. d) DUSKY ROSE (D De Gouveia) raced green. e) Jockey R Danielson (CHICKS FOR FREE) and Jockey D De Gouveia (DUSKY ROSE) reported that they felt something amiss with their respective mounts in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these horses. f) Jockey J P van der Merwe reported that GAETANA made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. g) BACK TO THE FUTURE (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee C Jena advised (DR).
