THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BANHA BRIDGE (K Matsunyane) and SO LONG SPRING (*P Mxoli) were slow into stride. b) FLAG BEARER (G Lerena) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) FLAG BEARER (G Lerena) proved difficult to settle in the early stages. b) Jockey J P van der Merwe the rider of POETS WARRIOR, appeared before the Board and was advised against the practice of making celebratory gestures prior to the finish line. c) Jockey R Danielson was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking AFRAAD more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey Danielson signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R750.00 was imposed. When assessing the penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times the crop was used (13) and Jockey Danielson's recent record with regards to this Rule and Guideline (1). d) POETS WARRIOR (J P van der Merwe), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A Azzie advised (RS). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) AFRAAD raced without blinkers and equipped with cheek pieces (declared 27 December 2022 at 07H15). b) GO FLICHITY raced equipped with blinker pacifiers (declared 27 December 2022 at 07H43). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) AFRAAD abnormal respiratory noise. b) ROYAL MAZARIN abnormal respiratory noise. c) SO LONG SPRING coughing. d) GO FLICHITY blowing. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
