THE STARTER REPORTED: a) NAMAQUA BLOSSOM (R Danielson) and SPECIAL CHARM (*R A Venniker) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 300m, APACHE FIGHTER (*D B Geerthsen), which had come to the end of its run and whose saddle had slipped sideways in running, was steadied to avoid the heels of RARATONGA ROSE (K de Melo), which was carried in by NAMAQUA BLOSSOM (R Danielson), which shifted in away from the crop and was straightened. Thereafter, in the concluding stages, RARATONGA ROSE (K de Melo), was carried in marginally by NAMAQUA BLOSSOM (R Danielson), which commenced to hang in. b) Apprentice R A Venniker, the rider of SPECIAL CHARM, briefly dropped her left-side rein at the 200m. Thereafter, Apprentice R A Venniker reported that she felt something amiss with SPECIAL CHARM in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. c) RARATONGA ROSE (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee N Houdalakis, acting on behalf of Trainer M N Houdalakis, was advised (MS).
