THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CUTBACK (D Schwarz) was difficult to load. b) KEEN SPIRIT (N Takawira) was slow away losing 4 lengths. The Starting Stalls Certificate of this filly has been withdrawn. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: . a) In view of the Starters report with regard to KEEN SPIRIT, this filly has been suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 for a period of 7 days and until recertified tractable loading into the Starting Stalls. Suspension dates from 15th January 2023 to 21st January 2023 both days included. KEEN SPIRIT may not be presented for re-passing during this period. Trainer D Swanson advised. b) At the 300m, CUTBACK (D Schwarz) and SUN BIRD (R Satombo) came together and bumped. Thereafter at the 150m, these two horses made slight contact once again. As a consequence SUN BIRD was carried inwards. c) After being slow away, KEEN SPIRIT (N Takawira) was not competitive and appeared to shorten its stride in the home straight. The Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) Jockey J Penny, the rider of QUNETRA, reported that this gelding tired quickly in the closing stages. The Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) DEPOSITION, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee M Mallett advised (AJ). JOCKEY AND/OR EQUIPMENT CHANGES: a) SUN BIRD (R Satombo) raced with a compression mask on. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) KEEN SPIRIT examined post race, nothing untoward was found. b) QUENETRA examined post race, nothing untoward was found.
