THE STARTER REPORTED: a) NATIONAL STAR (*S Sosibo) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, WILD FOREVER (C Habib), which jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls, ran onto and clipped the heels of SKYJET (*K A Brewer), resulting in WILD FOREVER stumbling badly. b) At approximately the 250m, BREEZE OVER (J P van der Merwe), which was hanging in, was brushed in by NATIONAL STAR (*S Sosibo), which shifted in significantly. As a consequence, BREEZE OVER (J P van der Merwe) had to steady to avoid the heels of SPRING WILL COME (C Maujean), which shifted out away from the crop. A race review was called by a member of the Stipendiary Board which was followed by an Objection being lodged by Jockey J P van der Merwe, the rider of the second-placed horse, BREEZE OVER, against the winner, NATIONAL STAR (*S Sosibo), on the grounds of interference at the 300m. The Board, after giving regard to the evidence presented by the relevant parties, was of the opinion that the result had not been affected by this incident and overruled the Objection and allowed the Judge's result to stand. Jockey J P van der Merwe's deposit was refunded. Apprentice S Sosibo was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that he, as the rider of NATIONAL STAR, failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to BREEZE OVER (J P van der Merwe) when he shifted in at approximately the 250m. Apprentice S Sosibo signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in races for a period of seven days. Suspension dates: 27 January 2023 to 2 February 2023 (both days inclusive). c) NATIONAL STAR (*S Sosibo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer S G Tarry advised (MduP). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: None. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) SPRING WILL COME mouth injury. b) FANTASTIC IMPACT (AUS) abnormal respiratory noise and coughing. c) CAMLICOURT fatigued. d) WILD FOREVER not striding out behind. SCRATCHED: a) CIRCUS LIGHTS colic (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies). DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
