THE STARTER REPORTED: a) AFRICAN TUNE (S Khumalo) and UNYIELDING (K Matsunyane) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, KENTISH MAID (C Maujean) and THREE BELLS (*M K Katjedi) were squeezed out between DOUBLE JOY (D Schwarz) and UNYIELDING (K Matsunyane), which jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) Shortly after the start, PERFORM (M Yeni), which shifted in, clipped the heels of MAPULE (D De Gouveia). c) Jockey C Habib (KUNGFOO LIGHTNING) did not persevere with his riding from the 400m. Thereafter, Jockey C Habib reported that KUNGFOO LIGHTNING did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) Jockey S Khumalo, the rider of AFRICAN TUNE, accidentally dropped his crop at the 200m. e) DOUBLE JOY, after racing in a prominent position throughout, tired badly in the concluding stages. Thereafter, Jockey D Schwarz attempted to ease DOUBLE JOY out of the race abruptly shortly before the finish line. Jockey D Schwarz reported that he felt something amiss with DOUBLE JOY in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. f) Jockey R Simons reported that A PLACE IN THE SUN did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. g) MIGHTY GODDESS (R Munger), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer B B Ruiters advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) SOLO DIVA was ridden by Jockey P Strydom (declared 26 January 2023 at 08H23). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) DOUBLE JOY raced with a tongue tie on (declared 23 January 2023 at 14H44). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) KUNGFOO LIGHTNING examined post race, nothing obvious detected. Veterinary report required prior to racing. Rule 49.7 applies.
