THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) BOHEMIAN GROVE (S Khumalo) was restless in the stalls.
b) ROYALS (A Arries) jumped slow, losing one length.
c) KUPHOLIWE (S Veale) was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) Leaving the 900m DUMBLEDORE (C Orffer) became unbalanced when he took an awkward stride. Jockey C Orffer, the rider of DUMBLEDORE, reported that this colt had been restless in the starting stalls and that it did not stride out freely in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine.
b) Leaving the 800m BOHEMIAN GROVE (S Khumalo) was awkwardly placed on the inside of NOON DAY GUN (K de Melo), which rolled inwards and thereafter, approaching the 400m, was awkwardly placed on the inside of WOMAN'S WORLD (K Steyn), which raced green and rolled inwards. In view of this performance, the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine BOHEMIAN GROVE (S Khumalo).
c) In view of the performance of THE ABDICATOR (IRE) (L Mxothwa), the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this colt.
d) Jockey G Lerena reported that WILLIAM WEST did not stride out freely in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this colt.
e) Jockey K Steyn was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking WOMAN'S WORLD more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey K Steyn signed an admission of guilt and was fined R2000,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Jockey K Steyn used his crop, his recent record and the number of strikes (13).
f) RASCOVA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GS Kotzen was advised. (SC)
