THE STARTER REPORTED: a) HEAR MY VOICE (P Strydom) stumbled leaving the stalls, losing two lengths. b) TOUCH OF GRACE (G Behr) jumped slow, losing one length. c) SPYWING (A Arries) jumped slow, losing two lengths and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) MULBERRY STREET (S Veale) over raced in the early stages and had to be restrained when close to the heels of FLYING FIRST (A Domeyer) leaving the 1000m. b) At the 200m a tiring STRAWBERRY LIGHT (R Fourie) was forced to check away from the heels of SPYWING (A Arries) which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. Jockey A Arries was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that as the rider of SPYWING, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to STRAWBERRY LIGHT at the 200m. Jockey A Arries signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 days. (Dates: 02/02/2023 to 08/02/2023) c) DOUBLE DREAM (C Orffer) and HEAR MY VOICE (P Strydom) were hanging out in the latter stages. d) Jockey G Wright reported that VENUS DE MILO felt uncomfortable in its action and did not respond to his urgings from the 400m. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. e) Jockey S Khumalo reported that FEARLESS TRIP did not stride out freely in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. f) Jockey K Steyn reported that I'LL SLIP AWAY choked up in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. g) Jockey A Arries was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking SPYWING more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey A Arries signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1500,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Jockey A Arries used his crop and the number of strikes (13). h) TOUCH OF GRACE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
