THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) Shortly after the start TIME TO MEDITATE (W Marwing) and JOHNNY'S HOPE (R Fourie) came together and brushed. b) At approximately the 250m IF YOU SAY SO (K de Melo) had to steady when awkwardly placed between TRITON (S Moodley) which was hanging in from the 400m and TIME TO MEDITATE (W Marwing). c) Apprentice M K Katjedi (LA DREAMER) dropped his right side rein at the 250m, which he regained shortly thereafter. d) Approaching the 150m, IF YOU SAY SO (K de Melo) had to ease when awkwardly placed on the heels of LA DREAMER (*M K Katjedi) which shifted in. e) Apprentice M K Katjedi signed an Admission Of Guilt for a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that as the rider of LA DREAMER, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to the horse IF YOU SAY SO (K de Melo) at approximately the 150m. Accordingly a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for 7 days was imposed. (Dates : 10.02.23 - 16.02.23 bdi). f) Jockey R Fourie reported that he felt something amiss with JOHNNY'S HOPE in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. g) Jockey R Fourie appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding to his ride on JOHNNY'S HOPE, with particular reference to the tactics adopted in the early and middle stages of the Race. He explained to the Board that it was his intention and instructions to drop this gelding out to the rear of the field and give him a patient ride. This was due to the concerns about JOHNNY'S HOPE seeing out the additional distance of today's Race. He felt that in his opinion that this gelding would be suited to a shorter distance as he did not stay the distance of 2400m. His explanation was noted by the Board. h) LUCK OF THE IRIS (N Patel), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M J Odendaal advised (NS).
