THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DUCHESS OF AFRICA (*RA Venniker) was stubborn loading. b) PLATINUM RUN (T Gould) kicked the back gates in the starting stalls. c) MERCURIAL JET (X Ndlovu) kicked the back gates in the starting stalls and thereafter was slow into stride. d) RACINANTE (C Maujean) and SWEET OHANNA (D de Gouveia) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start MAKE A DEAL (E Webber) and SWEET OHANNA (D de Gouveia) bumped on two occasions. b) At the 1200m MERCURIAL JET (X Ndlovu) was tightened for galloping room and had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the inside of SWEET OHANNA (D de Gouveia), which rolled in slightly away from MAKE A DEAL (E Webber). c) In view of the performance of MINSTREL GALLERY (S Khumalo) (Betting 28/10 ; Distance 4.60 lengths) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) Jockey X Ndlovu reported that MERCURIAL JET did not stride out freely in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. e) RAY FLAMBE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised.
