THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start for all runners. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) When jumping from a wide draw, MASTER OF DEFENSE (*R Venniker) attempted to look for cover and as a result commenced to over-race. b) In view of the performance of MASTER OF DEFENSE (*R Venniker), (14.25 lengths, betting 16/1), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) Jockey S Moodley signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction M, in that he mis-used his crop by striking the horse DUKE OF AFRICA more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey S Moodley struck the horse DUKE OF AFRICA, the manner in which he used his crop and his record (1) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R750 was imposed. d) MASTER OF DEFENSE (*R Venniker), unplaced, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M Roberts advised (NS). e) BLAZING LIGHT (S Veale), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer S Ferrie acting on behalf of Trainer D Drier was advised (DZ).
