THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BUSH TRACKER (K Steyn) was nervous in the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 100m ALL ABOUT AL (T Gould) was struck on the nose by the crop of Apprentice RA Venniker (MOUNT ANDERSON). b) After the running of this race, the Jockeys lodged a protest in terms of Rule 5.2.3 citing that the underfoot conditions were unsafe for racing. A panel was formed pursuant to the Rules and evidence was taken from two Jockeys, two Trainers, the Veterinary Surgeon and the racecourse Track Manager. The Panel was of the opinion that the track was not unsafe for racing and overruled the Jockeys' protest. The Jockeys however, disagreed with this decision and each rider was consulted with individually. All Jockeys, with the exception of X Ndlovu, T Gould and S Khathi, were adamant that they were unwilling to continue riding in the remaining races. This left the Stewards with no option after consulting with the race meeting representative, to abandon the remainder of the race meeting. c) MOUNT ANDERSON, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised. (LM) d) FERRARI ICE, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GD Smith was advised.
