THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MOUNT PLEASANT (AUS) (R Fourie) and CAPTAIN BOMBSHELL (G Lerena) were restless in the stalls. b) STREET OUTLAW (C Orffer) and DOUBLE CHARGE (G van Niekerk) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Approaching the 50m Jockey G van Niekerk had to stop riding and straighten DOUBLE CHARGE, which was hanging out, shifted out and became awkwardly placed on the inside of DEAN STREET (K Matsunyane). b) When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of DEAN STREET compared to this gelding's last run on 17 December 2022, Trainer L Woodruff told the Stewards that Jockey R Fourie had reported that DEAN STREET had resented the blinkers fitted on that occasion which, in her opinion, accounted for the below par performance. Trainer L Woodruff was advised to race this gelding without blinkers in future engagements. c) In view of the report from the Starter regarding MOUNT PLEASANT (AUS) (R Fourie), Trainer SJ Snaith will be advised to have this horse re-schooled before his next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. d) In view of the report from the Starter regarding CAPTAIN BOMBSHELL (G Lerena), Trainer P Muscutt will be advised to have this gelding re-schooled before his next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. e) DEAN STREET, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer L Woodruff was advised.
