THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey P Strydom reported that GRAND BAY raced freely without cover in the early stages and tired quickly from the 400m. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this colt. b) At the 200m ZIL MORIS (B Fayd'Herbe) had to be checked when tightened for galloping room between AVIGNON (J Jacobs) and EXCEPT TEMPTATION (A Domeyer), which raced green, shifted out and had to be straightened. c) Approaching the 50m AVIGNON (J Jacobs) and SWISS WALT (A Arries) raced in restricted room between EXCEPT TEMPTATION (A Domeyer) and ABERDEEN (D Ashby), which shifted in away from the crop. In this incident AVIGNON (J Jacobs) became unbalanced. d) Jockey G van Niekerk reported that POMPEI WARNING did not stride out freely in running and he did not persevere with his riding from the 200m. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) Jockey JP van der Merwe appeared before the Board and was advised against the practice of using his crop when out of contention for a place. f) OUTLAW KING, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
