THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DEVILS AND DUST (*S Hlengwa) reared on three occasions. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) At approximately the 250m WALTON HALL (N Patel) rolled in and shortly thereafter was carried out marginally by DEVILS AND DUST (*S Hlengwa) which shifted out away from the crop. A race review was called into this incident by a member of the Stipendiary Board which was followed by an objection being lodged by Trainer M N Prinsloo on behalf of WALTON HALL (N Patel), placed second, against the winner DEVILS AND DUST (*S Hlengwa) on the grounds of intimidation in the concluding stages. After considering the evidence, the Board over-ruled the objection. In arriving at the decision the Board considered the dual movement of WALTON HALL (N Patel) and DEVILS AND DUST (*S Hlengwa) and could not be satisfied that but for the above incident WALTON HALL (N Patel) would have finished ahead of DEVILS AND DUST (*S Hlengwa) and therefore it over-ruled the objection and allowed the judges' result to stand. Trainer M N Prinsloo's deposit was refunded. b) Jockey A Mgudlwa signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, (guideline M), in that he mis-used his crop by striking the horse BRAVE VOYAGER more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (15) Jockey A Mgudlwa struck the horse BRAVE VOYAGER, and his record (2) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R1500 was imposed. c) DEVILS AND DUST (*S Hlengwa), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P V Lafferty advised (DZ). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) Jockey A Mgudlwa was the rider of BRAVE VOYAGER (advised 26.02.23/10h31). b) EBONY BAY raced equipped with cheek pieces (advised 22.02.23/09h50). c) DEVILS AND DUST raced without cheek pieces (advised 23.02.23/15h36).
