THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) During the loading process ONNETILIA was fractious, reared, dislodged and injured Jockey S Devoy. ONNETILIA (S Devoy) was subsequently scratched as there was no other jockey available.
b) COLORAMA (X Ndlovu) threw its head down as the start was effected and jumped slow, losing two lengths.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) Jockey R Fourie reported that OPEN SECRET changed stride continually in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
b) In view of the performances of OWLETTE (S Khathi) (Betting 6/1 ; Distance 8.95) and BIG SKY COUNTRY (C Maujean) (Betting 11/2 ; Distance 4.95) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine these mares.
c) In view of the report from the starter regarding ONNETILIA (S Devoy), this filly's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and she is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as she proves to be tractable with a companion. Suspension dates: 01/03/2023 to 07/03/2023 inclusive). ONNETILIA may not be presented for re-passing during this period.
d) Jockey X Ndlovu was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking COLORAMA more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey X Ndlovu signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1000,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Jockey X Ndlovu used his crop and the number of strikes (13).
e) VIHZOE'S MAGIC, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer L Gila was advised. (LM)
