THE STARTER REPORTED: a) KING REGENT (K de Melo) was restless in the stalls. b) BEERENBERG (G van Niekerk) and BONIKA (R Fourie) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter were slow into stride. c) NARINA TROGON (D Ashby) jumped awkwardly, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At the 250m ICONIC DESTINATION (R Munger) had to be steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SPYWING (J Solomons), which shifted in away from the crop and was immediately straightened. b) At the 200m Jockey G van Niekerk (BEERENBERG) hesitated with his riding when tightened for galloping room between KITCHAKAL (S Veale) and KING REGENT (K de Melo). c) At the 50m BONIKA (R Fourie) had to be steadied when unable to secure clear running between KITCHAKAL (S Veale) and NARINA TROGON (D Ashby). d) ENSUING (O Noach) had difficulty securing clear running in the straight. e) Jockey R Munger reported that ICONIC DESTINATION changed stride continually in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) In view of the report from the Starter regarding KING REGENT (K de Melo), Trainer GS Kotzen will be advised to have this gelding re-schooled before his next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. g) NARINA TROGON, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised.
