THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) SUNDROP (K Steyn) proved difficult proceeding to the start and had to be led by a Handler, causing a delay. Trainer JVA Strydom was advised that should this filly behave in a similar manner in future, she may be suspended. b) KILMONIVAIG (R Munger) was hanging in throughout. c) Jockey D Ashby reported that PRINCESS LOUISA did not stride out freely in running and eased the filly out of the race from the 400m. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. d) Jockey S Khumalo reported that COFFEE IN SEATTLE made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. e) In view of the performance of LITTLE MISS KJ (S Khathi) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. f) Jockey X Ndlovu was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking ESTHER more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey X Ndlovu signed an admission of guilt and was fined R2500,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Jockey Ndlovu used his crop, that this was ESTHER's first run and the number of strikes (15). g) YAYA MARIA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
