THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PAINITE (L Mxothwa) was stubborn loading and jumped slow, losing one length. b) TEXAS TORNADO (T Gould) was nervous in the stalls. c) TWICE A SAINT (D Schwarz) jumped awkwardly. d) OPENING CEREMONY (R Fourie) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) COSMIC EMPIRE dislodged Jockey S Khathi while proceeding to the start and bolted the course, was examined by the course veterinary surgeon and withdrawn, causing a delay. b) PRINCE OF HEAVEN (D Ashby), which was hanging out from the 200m, shifted out and proved difficult to straighten. c) VUVUZELA UMLILO (C Maujean) rolled in and had to be steadied when close to the heels of CLAP OF THUNDER (W Agrella) which rolled out marginally at the finish. d) Jockey K Minnie reported that THALIA'S GALAXY was blowing post-race. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this colt. e) In view of the performance of WHITE WITCH (G Lerena) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. f) CLAP OF THUNDER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee NJ Paddock, acting on behalf of Trainer WGC Miller, was advised. (LM) g) OPENING CEREMONY, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer DA McKenzie was advised.
