THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) Leaving the 400m, BALLROOM BLISS (J P van der Merwe) was steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of WILLOW'S WISH (R Fourie), which commenced to hang in badly. Thereafter, at the 300m, INVINCIBLE WARRIOR (K de Melo) was steadied momentarily to avoid the heels of WILLOW'S WISH (R Fourie), which continued to hang in. Approaching the 200m, SOUTHERN SONG (S Khumalo) was taken back for a stride when awkwardly placed on heels of SUPREME DANCE (G Lerena), which was carried in by WILLOW'S WISH (R Fourie).
A race review was called by a member of the Stipendiary Board which was followed by an Objection being lodged by Trainer B Warren on behalf of the second placed horse, SUPREME DANCE (G Lerena), against the winner, WILLOW'S WISH (R Fourie), on the grounds of interference and intimidation in the concluding stages. The Board, after giving regard to the evidence presented by the relevant parties, was of the opinion that the result had not been affected by this incident, overruled the Objection and allowed the Judges result to stand. Trainer B Warren's deposit was refunded.
The Board was satisfied that Jockey R Fourie attempted to straighten WILLOW'S WISH on numerous occasions from the 400m to the finish, and that this had precluded him from being able to fully assist this gelding out to the end of race. However, Trainer S G Tarry was advised to take the necessary corrective measures to improve this gelding's racing manners. Furthermore, Trainer S G Tarry was advised that should WILLOW'S WISH behave in this manner, in future, it will be suspended.
b) Jockey K de Melo reported that he felt something amiss with INVINCIBLE WARRIOR in running.
The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
c) Jockey S Khumalo reported that SOUTHERN SONG made an abnormal respiratory noise in running.
The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this mare.
d) WILLOW'S WISH (R Fourie), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
Trainer S G Tarry advised (MS).

a) TAMARISK TREE was ridden by Apprentice K A Brewer (declared 10 March 2023 at 09H00).
