THE STARTER REPORTED: a) GILDED BUTTERFLY (G Lerena) and CLAFOUTIS (R Fourie) were slow losing one length. b) JULIET TANGO (J P van der Merwe) was slow into stride. c) As the start was effected, the left front gate on stall gate #3 bounced back making contact with ETERNAL LIFE'S (*K A Brewer) left front shoulder. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) TIPSY TARRAGON (C Zackey) and ETERNAL LIFE (*K A Brewer) proved difficult to settle in the early stages. b) Approaching the 300m, SISTER LIGHT (K Matsunyane), which commenced to hang in, was momentarily inconvenienced on the outside of TERRA TIME (M van Rensburg), which was carried out marginally by BUREAU DES LEGENDE (G Pieterse), which hung out from the 500m. Thereafter, approaching the 100m, SISTER LIGHT (K Matsunyane), which continued to hang in, was steadied momentarily to avoid the heels of TERRA TIME (M van Rensburg), which was directed outwards when awkwardly placed on the outside of BUREAU DES LEGENDE (G Pieterse), which continued to hang out. c) At approximately the 400m, TIPSY TARRAGON (C Zackey) switched in off the heels of CLAFOUTIS (R Fourie) to obtain a clear run. d) JULIET TANGO stumbled badly in the pull-up area unbalancing Jockey J P van der Merwe. e) Jockey G Lerena reported that GILDED BUTTERFLY made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. f) Jockey R Fourie reported that CLAFOUTIS did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. g) BUREAU DES LEGENDE (G Pieterse), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer R Klaasen advised (MS). Trainer R Klaasen to be questioned regarding the improved performance of BUREAU DES LEGENDE. JOCKEY CHANGES: a) QUEEN OF SHADOWS was ridden by Jockey K de Melo (declared 17 March 2023 at 21H19). b) JULIET TANGO was ridden by Jockey J P van der Merwe (declared 18 March 2023 at 08H53).
