THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BIG CITY GIRL (*M K Katjedi) jumped inwards making contact with the right-side front gate leaving the stalls. b) MABONENG (K de Melo) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. c) SPRING WILL COME (*D B Geerthsen) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. d) GREGOR MACGREGOR (D De Gouveia) jumped from the stalls riderless. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) A race review was called into the start of this Race where it was established that GREGOR MACGREGOR (D De Gouveia), in stall gate 1, had jumped riderless. The Board was of the opinion that the Handler allocated to this gelding had not impeded him, that the starting stalls were released on time and therefore declared GREGOR MACGREGOR to be a runner. An inquiry will be opened into this incident. b) Apprentice M K Katjedi was momentarily unbalanced on BIG CITY GIRL, which jumped awkwardly inwards making contact with the right-side front gate. c) Jockey G Lerena reported that WIND SOCK, which stumbled leaving the stalls, took a number of awkward strides in running. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) In view of the performance of OYSTER KING (P Strydom), (distance 2,40 lengths, betting 7/2), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) Jockey M van Rensburg reported that SPEECHMAKER made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this mare. f) MABONENG (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer S G Tarry advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) BARMAID was ridden by Jockey C Maujean (declared 16 March 2023 at 16H10). b) OYSTER KING was ridden by Jockey P Strydom (declared 16 March 2023 at 16H10). c) FASINADA: Jockey D Schwarz weighed out at 54,9kg, 0,5kg over the carded weight. d) MABONENG: Jockey K de Melo weighed out at 54,2kg, 0,5kg over the carded weight. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) SPEECHMAKER raced with a tongue tie on (declared 19 March 2023 at 07H44). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) WIND SOCK delayed recovery. b) OYSTER KING not striding out right hind; coughing post race. c) SPEECHMAKER examined post race, nothing obvious detected. d) SPRING WILL COME abnormal respiratory noise. e) EAGLE ALLEY unilateral nasal discharge; coughing post race. f) BARMAID coughing post race. SCRATCHED: a) TIMEFORTHAT insufficient recovery time (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies). DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
