THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 150m, BERENGARIA (P Strydom) was eased in anticipation of the available run closing between LOLLAPALOOZA (C Zackey), which shifted out away from the crop, and TIME IS TICKING (*K A Brewer), which rolled in. As a consequence, BERENGARIA (P Strydom) was switched out to continue its run. b) At approximately the 150m, UNITED EXPRESS (M van Rensburg) was carried in marginally by ROCKINGTHETIMEAWAY (*D Schwarz), which shifted in to avoid running onto the heels of TAYOOBA (K Matsunyane). c) MOTHER OF PEARL (K de Melo) hung in from the 400m. d) Jockey K de Melo reported that MOTHER OF PEARL made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. e) In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning TIME IS TICKING, and in terms of Rule 93.1, this filly is suspended for 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of the National Horseracing Authority. Trainer W H Marwing was advised. f) TIME IS TICKING (*K A Brewer), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer W H Marwing advised (MS). Trainer W H Marwing appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding the improved performance of TIME IS TICKING (*K A Brewer). He explained to the Board that, from a wide draw, they opted to adopt a change of tactics where they dropped this filly out to the rear of field and allowed her to run on. In his opinion, this accounted for the improved performance. Trainer W H Marwing has undertaken, where possible, to adopt similar tactics in future. JOCKEY CHANGES: a) LOLLAPALOOZA was ridden by Jockey C Zackey (declared 16 March 2023 at 07H40). b) BIRD IN SPACE was ridden by Apprentice P Mxoli (declared 21 March 2023 at 13H43). c) ROCKINGTHETIMEAWAY: Jockey D Schwarz weighed out at 54,9kg, 0,5kg over the carded weight. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) MOTHER OF PEARL raced equipped with pacifiers (declared 21 March 2023 at 07H21). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) MOTHER OF PEARL blowing post race. b) LOLLAPALOOZA coughing post race. c) ROCKINGTHETIMEAWAY coughing post race. d) BERENGARIA coughing post race. e) TIME IS TICKING unilateral epistaxis (left nostril), recommended 60 day suspension.
