THE STARTER REPORTED: a) HEATHCLIFF (R Fourie) was stubborn loading and thereafter, slow into stride. b) KING REGENT (G van Niekerk) jumped slow, losing one length. c) ZATARA MAGIC (R Munger) jumped awkwardly and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At the 150m KING REGENT (G van Niekerk) was momentarily inconvenienced on the outside of PORT LOUIS (L Mxothwa), which shifted out away from the crop and was immediately straightened. b) In view of the performance of ZATARA MAGIC (R Munger), which over raced in the early stages, the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) Jockey R Fourie reported that HEATHCLIFF did not stride out freely in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) Jockey X Ndlovu was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking DAMMI more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey X Ndlovu signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1000,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Jockey Ndlovu used his crop and the number of strikes (13). e) PERFECTION, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
