THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MONUMENTAL (S Veale) jumped slow, losing two lengths and thereafter, was slow into stride. b) AVIGNON (J Jacobs) jumped awkwardly, losing one length and thereafter, was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) There was a technical issue with the photo finish, resulting in a delay in the release of the all-clear. b) Shortly after the start KYOMAI (G van Niekerk), which raced keenly with its head up in the early stages, was taken in behind runners to obtain cover. Thereafter, KYOMAI (G van Niekerk), which then raced green on the bend, had to be steadied when close to the heels of ZIL MORIS (R Khathi) at the 1000m. c) Approaching the 400m HARD WINTER (L Mxothwa) was unable to secure a clear run between AVIGNON (J Jacobs) and MONUMENTAL (S Veale) and then had to be steadied when close to the heels of AVIGNON (J Jacobs) at the 350m. d) SPRING PALACE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised.
