THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SPLENDID FELLA (S Khumalo) was stubborn to load. b) CANFORD ICE (M V'Rensburg) was stubborn to load. Lost 1 length. c) GLOBAL RULER (D Schwarz) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) At the 1000m, SPLENDID FELLA (S Khumalo) shifted out sharply away from the inside running rail for no apparent reason and thereafter raced wide around the turn until entering the straight. b) CHILLI CHACHA (K de Melo) was hanging in, in the straight. c) UBISIKA (S Moodley) was hanging in from the 350m. d) Jockey S Khumalo reported that he felt something amiss with SPLENDID FELLA in the concluding stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) ROMANCE IN ROME (T Godden), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
