THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) COSMIC EMPIRE (S Khathi) and THE LAST BELLE (C Maujean) were nervous in the stalls.
b) SPACE EXPLORER (D Schwarz) jumped inwards and made contact with JOE HARMAN (JP van der Merwe).
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) Shortly after the start BALLYCOTTON (D Ashby) was bumped on the hindquarters by ANTONIA AUGUSTA (TM Musekiwa), which shifted in. Jockey TM Musekiwa (ANTONIA AUGUSTA) appeared before the Board, was shown the patrol film and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
b) Leaving the 100m JOE HARMAN (JP van der Merwe) was directed to the inside of PRINCE OF HEAVEN (T Gould). Simultaneously, PRINCE OF HEAVEN (T Gould) shifted in away from the crop, had to be straightened and carried JOE HARMAN (JP van der Merwe) inwards for a short distance.
c) Jockey S Khumalo reported that RED CENTRE, which progressively gave ground to the field from the 600m and was not persevered with in the straight, took no interest in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. When questioned regarding the performance of RED CENTRE (S Khumalo).
Trainer GD Smith told the Stewards that this is the second occasion this filly has proved very disappointing when racing on the polytrack. He further told the Stewards that it is his intention not to race this filly on this surface in future engagements.
d) Jockey R Fourie reported that VUVUZELA UMLILO made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
e) Jockey K Minnie reported that RAGSAA made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
f) Jockey L Mxothwa reported that he felt something amiss with GREAT ECSTASY. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
g) Jockey D Ashby reported that BALLYCOTTON did not stride out freely in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
h) PRINCE OF HEAVEN, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer WGC Miller was advised. (LM)
i) COSMIC EMPIRE, unplaced, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised. (LM)
