THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) DREAM SCAPE (L Mxothwa) was fractious in the stalls, taken out, examined by the course veterinary surgeon, passed suitable to race and reloaded, causing a delay. Thereafter, DREAM SCAPE (L Mxothwa) reared as the start was effected, losing many lengths.
b) BONNAROO (R Fourie) was stubborn loading.
c) SPLASH OF GREEN (JP van der Merwe) and MISS ROSE (K Steyn) were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) The Stewards reviewed the start of this race with regards to DREAM SCAPE (L Mxothwa) in stall gate 2. In this regard the Stewards established that DREAM SCAPE (L Mxothwa) had reared as the start was effected. The Stewards were satisfied that this filly had not been impeded in any way and that any loss of ground was due to this horses' own behaviour. No further action was taken.
b) In view of the report from the starter regarding DREAM SCAPE (L Mxothwa), this filly's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and she is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as she proves to be tractable with a companion. (Suspension dates: 01/04/2023 to 07/04/2023 inclusive). DREAM SCAPE may not be presented for re-passing during this period.
c) Jockey K Minnie reported that EMILY'S SPIRIT made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
d) Jockey S Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking READY TO FLY more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey S Khathi signed an admission of guilt and was suspended for seven (7) days. (Dates 01/04/2023 to 07/04/2023, both dates inclusive). In determining penalty, the Stewards took into account the number of strikes (15) and that this was Jockey S Khathi's second offence at today's race meeting.
e) BONNAROO, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised. (LM)
