THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PUERTO MANZANO (ARG) (K de Melo) TRIP OF FORTUNE (A Domeyer) and GIMME A SHOT (J P van der Merwe) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) ANFIELDS ROCKET proved reluctant to proceed to the start and was led by a Handler. Trainer G J Maroun was advised that should this gelding behave in a similar manner in future, it may be suspended. b) THUNDERSTRUCK (C Zackey) over-raced in the early and middle stages. c) Leaving the 150m, GIMME A SHOT (J P van der Merwe) was carried in slightly by TRIP OF FORTUNE (A Domeyer) which closed the race off strongly and itself shifted in slightly. d) Approaching the 100m, GIMME A SHOT (J P van der Merwe) which showed a tendency to hang in, was badly crowded for galloping room between TRIP OF FORTUNE (A Domeyer) and MK'S PRIDE (R Munger) which shifted out away from the crop. During this incident, GIMME A SHOT was checked severely and made contact with the right hind quarter of TRIP OF FORTUNE which was turned inwards and GIMME A SHOT lost position. Jockey Munger the rider of MK'S PRIDE, appeared before the Board regarding this incident, and was advised that although the Stewards accepted that he had taken the necessary corrective measures in this incident, he is required to react sooner in similar circumstances in future. e) Jockey R Danielson the rider of ANFIELDS ROCKET accidentally dropped his crop shortly before the finish line. Jockey Danielson was advised that the Stewards recorded that he had dropped his crop in Race 4 and that a repeat offence of this nature, may result in a penalty being imposed against him. f) Jockey R Fourie reported that GOLDEN DUCAT was blowing in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. g) TRIP OF FORTUNE (A Domeyer), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson advised (MdP). h) MK'S PRIDE (R Munger), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer R R Sage advised (MS). i) ANFIELDS ROCKET (R Danielson), placed third, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer G J Maroun advised (SM). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: None. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) GOLDEN DUCAT examined post race, nothing obvious detected. b) THUNDERSTRUCK abnormal respiratory noise and cast its left hind shoe in running. SCRATCHED: a) MELECH abnormal temperature (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies). DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
