THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) BATTLE OF KURSK *D B Geerthsen) was stubborn loading.
b) HOLOCENE (*K A Brewer) and TREXCELLENT (*P Mxoli) were slow losing two lengths.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) TREXCELLENT (*P Mxoli) ducked out sharply shortly after the start. Thereafter, this colt commenced to give ground to the field and race detached throughout.
b) SUGAR BLAST (R Fourie) commenced to over-race in the early and middle stages.
c) BATTLE OF KURSK (*D B Geerthsen) hung in from the 300m.
d) Jockey J Mariba was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking PURPLE PITCHER more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey J Mariba signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R3000 was imposed.
When assessing this penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times the crop was used (13) and Jockey J Mariba's recent record with regard to this Rule and Guideline.
e) Trainer B B Ruiters was charged with a contravention of Rule 38.4 in that he failed to update the passport of PURPLE PITCHER with respect to Equine Influenza.
Trainer B B Ruiters signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1000.
f) MAX THE MAGICIAN (M Yeni), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
Trainer R R Magner advised (MduP).
JOCKEY CHANGES:
a) DAKOTA CAT was ridden by Jockey R Munger (declared 29 April 2023 at 11H33).
Jockey D Schwarz was charged with a contravention of Rule 55.4 in that he failed to weigh out at the correct carded weight on DAKOTA CAT, or at the higher weight confirmed in his engagement with Trainer J S Roux which necessitated a change of Rider. Jockey D Schwarz signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1000.
RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER:
a) TREXCELLENT raced equipped with blinkers and a tongue tie on (declared 25 April 2023 at 13H42).
THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED:
a) DAKOTA CAT brush wound left hind.
