THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MAIN DEFENDER (C Maujean) reared in the stalls, removed, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and subsequently withdrawn. b) THE ABDICATOR (IRE) (L Mxothwa) was restless in the stalls, removed, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, passed fit to race and re-loaded. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) NINETY NINE HEROS (T Godden) raced green. b) Jockey R Fourie reported that MIDNIGHT FUSION did not stride out freely in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) Apprentice R A Venniker reported that HUNZA ROAD (*R A Venniker) took no interest in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) Jockey B Jacobson signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read with guideline M, in that he mis-used his crop by striking CLIFF HANGER more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey B Jacobson struck the horse CLIFF HANGER, and his record in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R2000 was imposed. e) CLIFF HANGER (B Jacobson), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Y Govender advised (NS).
