THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) MAHARANEE (K de Melo) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) MIDNIGHT GEM proved reluctant proceeding to the start and was subsequently scratched. This mare is suspended in terms of Rule 93.2.4, until such time as she proves tractable cantering to the start on a raceday. Trainer P P Labuschagne is to be advised.
b) Jockey S Khumalo reported that SUPREME WARRIOR changed stride continually in running.
The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt.
c) Jockey G Lerena reported that SMORGASBORD did not stride out freely and made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
d) GODSWOOD (*S Sosibo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.

e) MIDNIGHT GEM (*K A Brewer), scratched, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.

JOCKEY CHANGES:
a) MAHARANEE was ridden by Jockey K de Melo, who weighed out at 54kg, 1,5kg over the carded weight of which 0,5kg was declared (declared 7 May 2023 at 08H24).
Jockey K de Melo was charged with a contravention of Rule 55.4 in that he failed to weigh out at the correct carded weight on the horse MAHARANEE, or at the higher weight confirmed in his engagement with Trainer J A Janse van Vuuren. Jockey K de Melo signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1000.
b) MIDNIGHT GEM was carded to be ridden by Apprentice K A Brewer (declared 7 May 2023 at 12H19).
Jockey J R Syster was charged with a contravention of Rule 55.4 in that he failed to weigh out at the correct carded weight on the horse MIDNIGHT GEM, or at the higher weight confirmed in his engagement with the Trainer which necessitated a change of Rider. Jockey J R Syster signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R1000 was imposed.
c) GODSWOOD: Apprentice S Sosibo weighed out at 51,2kg, only claiming 1kg of his 2,5kg apprentice allowance as declared.
