THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ROCKINGTHETIMEAWAY (J R Syster) and BACK TO BASICS (N Klink) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, SUPER SECRET (*M K Katjedi) became unbalanced and had its hindquarters turned inwards when bumped by CONKER THE WORLD (C F Dicken), which was carried in by SPRING WILL COME (*R A Venniker), which rolled in. b) Leaving the 300m, CONKER THE WORLD (C F Dicken) was carried in by TIMBAVATI RIVER (G Pieterse), which shifted in away from the crop. Thereafter, at approximately the 150m, BUSHVELD (*S Hlengwa), which had come to the end of its run, made contact with the inside running rail when brushed in by BIG CITY GIRL (*K A Brewer), which commenced to hang in after being carried in marginally by CONKER THE WORLD (C F Dicken), which hung in from the 200m. c) Apprentice D B Geerthsen, the rider of MASTERS QUEEN, did not persevere with his riding from the 300m. In view of this performance, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) BACK TO BASICS (N Klink), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee C Jena, acting on behalf of Trainer P F Matchett, was advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) ROCKINGTHETIMEAWAY was ridden by Jockey J R Syster (declared 9 May 2023 at 08H18). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) MASTERS QUEEN raced with club colours (black with a blue cap) Stipes permission. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) MASTERS QUEEN not striding out right front. b) CONKER THE WORLD brush wound left hind. c) TIMBAVATI RIVER cast its right front shoe in running.
