THE STARTER REPORTED: a) UMHLALI (*S Hlengwa) and LUNA ECLIPSE (*R A Venniker) were stubborn to load. b) IMPERIOUS DESTINY (T Godden) was restless in the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) DUCHESS OF GOLD (M V'Rensburg) stumbled leaving the starting stalls which resulted in Jockey M V'Rensburg losing his left-side stirrup iron which he regained shortly thereafter. As a consequence, DUCHESS OF GOLD (M V'Rensburg) lost momentum and gave ground to the field. b) At approximately the 400m, Apprentice R A Venniker felt something amiss with LUNA ECLIPSE and as a result eased this mare out of the Race. As a consequence of this, GARDENIA (J Gates) shifted in to avoid LUNA ECLIPSE (*R A Venniker). Shortly thereafter, at the 350m, IM THE BUZZ (C Maujean) was carried out by LUNAR ECLIPSE (*R A Venniker) which had broken down, dislodging Apprentice R A Venniker. c) Jockey C Maujean reported that IM THE BUZZ did not stride out freely in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) GARDENIA (J Gates), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer T Crawford acting on behalf of Trainer L Crawford advised (DZ). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) Nil. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) IM THE BUZZ : Nothing obvious detected. b) UMHLALI : Fatigued. c) LUNAR ECLIPSE : Broke down left front and was euthanised on humane grounds. Specimens taken for analysis Trainer M L Roberts advised (RS). SCRATCHINGS : a) PERFECT TRUST : Under vet treatment (Trainer - 23.05.23/11h07). Rule 53.5 applies. b) CRAZY BLUES : Interrupted work programme (Trainer - 23.05.23/08h28). DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: a) None.
