THE STARTER REPORTED: a) INEVITABLE (M Yeni) was restless in the stalls and thereafter jumped outwards leaving the stalls. b) ORIENTAL ODYSSEY (*M K Katjedi) was slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) As the start was effected, INEVITABLE (M Yeni) and PUNTA ALTA (*P Mxoli) came together and bumped. b) LINDA'S LEGACY (R Danielson) and ORIENTAL ODYSSEY (*M K Katjedi) jumped inwards leaving the stalls making contact with their respective right-front gates. c) LINDA'S LEGACY (R Danielson) commenced to give ground to the field from the 300m. d) Approaching the 400m, COUNT YOUR CHANCES (G Lerena), which was directed inwards off the heels of LORNA LILLY (M Thackeray), and INEVITABLE (M Yeni), which rolled out marginally, came together and bumped. Thereafter, at the 200m, COUNT YOUR CHANCES (G Lerena), which raced in close proximity to INEVITABLE (M Yeni), was carried out by INEVITABLE (M Yeni), which shifted out away from the crop. Jockey M Yeni appeared before the Board and was advised to take the necessary corrective measures sooner to keep his mounts straight in races. e) COUNT YOUR CHANCES (G Lerena) shifted in away from the crop in the concluding stages. f) SWEET BASIL (D De Gouveia), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer N Titise, acting on behalf of Trainer S T Pettigrew, was advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) WILKIES was ridden by Jockey S Khumalo (declared 24 May 2023 at 18H16).
