THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) THE CHARIOTEER (L Mxothwa) was stubborn loading, reared in the stalls, was taken out, examined by the course veterinary surgeon and withdrawn, causing a delay.
b) SMART MASTER (JP van der Merwe) was nervous in the stalls, taken out, examined by the course veterinary surgeon, passed suitable to race and reloaded.
c) GOOD REASON (L Nhlapo) and REGAZZO GRANDE were nervous in the stalls.
d) ROYAL STATESMAN (F Herholdt), MANCHESTER FIGHTER (D Ashby) and MANTIS KING (M Thackeray) were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) Jockey JP van der Merwe reported that SMART MASTER did not stride out freely in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this colt.
b) In view of the report from the starter regarding THE CHARIOTEER (L Mxothwa), this colt's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable to load with a companion. Suspension dates: 27/05/2023 to 02/06/2023 inclusive). THE CHARIOTEER may not be presented for re-passing during this period.
c) EMPIRE BLUE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer A Mtengwana, acting on behalf of Trainer AC Greeff, was advised. (HK)
d) PUBLIC BENEFIT, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised. (HK)
