THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) A fair start.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) ERMELO (*R A Venniker) failed to canter to the start and had to be led to the start. This gelding is suspended in terms of Rule 93.2.4 and until such time it proves tractable to canter to the start to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards with a lead pony on a race day.
b) From a wide draw STRAWBERRY STINGER (G van Niekerk) was directed inwards to race behind runners where it remained for the duration of the turn and into the straight. Thereafter Jockey van Niekerk did not ride this colt with vigour and after the race reported that he felt something amiss with STRAWBERRY STINGER. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
c) KUPHOLIWE (S Veale) was difficult to settle in the early stages.
d) A Stipendiary Steward called a race review into an incident in the closing stages which in her opinion may have had a bearing on the result and to the minor placings. It was established that WINTER GAMES (T Godden) and ERMELO (*R A Venniker), both of which had shifted ground marginally, raced tight and shortly before the finish line these two horses brushed when ERMELO (*R A Venniker) rolled out slightly. After considering the result as given by the Judge, no further action was taken.
e) GIMMEANOTHERCHANCE (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M F De Kock advised (NS).
f) WINTER GAMES (T Godden), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M D Miller advised (DM).
